Mike Davis and Tina Cheng’s article regarding the expanding scope of transgender inmate rights was recently published in DRI’s Medlaw Update, Volume 21, Issue 2, June 24, 2016. The article highlights that more courts across the country are holding that prison and jail administrators are required to provide transgender inmates with hormone therapy and, in some cases, sex reassignment surgery, or else the officials may run afoul of the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment.
