A. Walton Nall (1908 – 1984)

One of the founding members of Nall & Miller in 1948, Walton Nall enjoyed the reputation as one of the state’s finest trial lawyers. Many of the trial attorneys who emerged during this time were trained and taught by Mr. Nall. He served as President of the Atlanta Bar Association in 1953 among his many positions of service.

Samuel A. Miller (1906 – 2003)

A founding member of Nall & Miller, Sam Miller actively practiced law well into his nineties. He was the business lawyer to Walton Nall’s expertise as a trial lawyer. Sam’s counsel benefited innumerable businesses during the rapid growth of Atlanta from small town to international city. Sam was President of The Temple when it was bombed by KKK sympathizers in the mid-1950’s, and he is a past President of the American Leukemia Foundation. The Atlanta Bar Association feted Sam for his seventy-plus years of service to the Bar, its members, and his clients.

James S. “Sandy” Owens, Jr. (1942 – 2013)

Sandy Owens was a driving force and steady hand for Nall & Miller from the time he joined the firm until his untimely death in 2013. Throughout his fine career, he counseled his clients with intellect, insight and grace. Hundreds of Georgia trial lawyers benefited from Sandy’s continued teaching at almost any trial academy given in the state. As one Chairman summed up his service, “I can say without reservation that Sandy is the best lawyer we have had at the Trial Academy.”

Robert Hocutt (1942-2023)

Bob joined Nall & Miller in the early 1970’s after working in the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department for several years. Bob was a gifted trial lawyer. He became a trusted advisor and counselor to his many clients. Throughout his career, Bob mentored younger attorneys and in many ways was the social and ethical conscience of the firm.  He always exemplified professionalism and was respected by his colleagues and adversaries alike.
